What We Do
Elevating Paediatric Dental Care
The South African Association of Paediatric Dentistry (SAAPD) is a non-profit organization with the ultimate goal of promoting optimal oral health for our Nation's children. Paediatric dentistry is challenging both clinically and emotionally. Most of the time, it is also interesting, rewarding, and very entertaining!
Continuing Professional Development
We are committed to advancing the professional growth of paediatric dentists through superior continuing education—hosting courses, seminars, and congresses that showcase the latest in dental knowledge and practice.
Public Awareness
We distribute educational materials to parents, caregivers, and the public, highlighting the importance of early dental care and promoting preventive practices from infancy.
Research and Development
We promote continuous education and research in paediatric dentistry, providing professionals with the latest insights on advanced treatment modalities and materials.
Advocacy for Specialisation
One of our core ambitions is to have paediatric dentistry recognised as a specialty by the Health Professions Council of South Africa, ensuring a specialised curriculum at academic institutions that reflects the unique needs of children's dental care.
Community Outreach
SAAPD proudly facilitates outreach projects, ensuring children in less accessible communities receive the essential dental care and check-ups they need for optimal oral health.

Medical Aid Inclusion
The SAAPD is actively campaigning for the introduction and adoption of paediatric-specific dentistry codes by South African medical aid companies, aiming to secure better health coverage for the nation's youth.
